Ask HN: Will AI-generated images flooding the web pollute future training data?

We are seeing tons of AI-generated images from Dall-E, StableDiffusion, Midjourney, etc. flooding the internet. This will only increase. Not every such images has a distinct mark that denotes it as AI-generated. They could be mistaken for real photograph or real work of (digital) art by a human. Especially by an algorithm. I also understand a lot of today's cutting-edge models are trained on images scraped from the web. Not sure what curation happens but it cannot be foolproof. Will future AI models that generate "realistic" images feed on this as input and generate images that mimic some of these attributes -- creating some kind of feedback loop that will eco for generations of models? Has anyone already thought of such issues -- not just with images but with AI-generated text, data, music, etc. Curious to know what is the thinking of this group here.

Ask HN: Advice after a decade trying to get into YC
11 by bluelightning2k | 16 comments on Hacker News.
My first YC interview was a decade ago. I'd love some advice. Background for those interested: Act 1. A kid with no product. My first YC interview was 10 years ago. I had a laughable excuse of a product. I only got the interview because I had an unusually fast career growth (CMO of a $180m company by age 23). This remains my only visit to the US. They rightly sent me packing. Act 2: build skills then build something In the interim I did consulting for a few years. Then I founded my own small company. I taught myself to code properly. And bootstrapped a small SaaS to $20k MRR and applied again. At interview they said the total market isn't enough. (They were right.) Act 3: Build something people want. I wrote a list of criteria for my next product and evaluated literally 1000 ideas. The resulting idea is excellent but it's technically hard. I've put all the resources of my company and myself into getting it made. Hard to quantify with it being bootstrapped but I've put the resources of my small company into this. Probably 500k of monetary value. Talking to customers it's very clear there's demand. My small team is excellent. Any advice for this 3rd time around? There's clear demand but it's hard to simply launch as the product is complex and I want it to work consistently first. I know YC dislikes solo founders, not sure if having a team already in place helps. I am the solo founder but at this point I've background in multiple areas; sold half a mill personally, CMO of a big company, built a team, spent the past few years as an engineer. How best to frame this to YC at this stage? Should I put my team in the video? Should I create a new account to hide that I first interviewed a decade ago? Any advice appreciated. I didn't link to my company as I didn't want to come across as promoting but will if asked.

Ask HN: How do you work with Dependabot?

I like the idea of Dependabot. A to that actively tracks down dependency updates can be useful. Where I work, we have a daily CI job that creates a PR for each new dependency and runs a build in both our UI (JavaScript) and API (Python) projects. If the build passes, "Happy Days", we can merge the PR, and the app is all the more secure and effective for it. What I've noticed in practice however, is that occasionally, this process will allow an upgrade to a dependency that will pass the automated build and test step, but introduce the wildest runtime error into the application. Usually at the time when we aim to deliver something. Dependency 'spam' is also a very real issue - https://ift.tt/xVAKgGt - the daily deluge of often insignificant updates is a trudge to deal with, especially when coupled with the risk of these sly runtime errors. Dependabot is a great idea, but no-one appears to have anything bad, or practical, to say against it. But it does clearly have flaws. I don't think I'd want to switch the bot off, but I would be interested in hearing how other people get on with the tool. Thanks. :]

Thanks. :]

Tutors / tips to change your English accent

Let's start with that my accent is clear enough and I don't have communication issues at work. I actually feel quite comfortable. But I'd love to have a perfect west coast American accent when I speak english. Having learned a few other languages myself, it feels pretty good when you can surprise a native. Anybody that went through that process of improving their accent with a tutor or on their own could share their learnings on it?
